She cuts her cake on 27th of July every year. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Her parents belong to different places as her father is from Zimbabwe while her mother is from same as her birth place. She got her earlier education from her native place that is Maryland. But later on, she went to Harvard University where she holds a degree in Bachelor Of Arts in English Literature in 1990.

The year 2009 in which people began to know Chideya with new identity, the identity as a novelist. Yes, her first book Kiss The Sky published in the year 2009 by Atria Books. The book revealed the story of a black female rock musician. The book rooted in the characterization of Black Rock Movement and the New York Club scene. She is also an author of three non fiction books- Don’t Believe the Hype, The Color of our Future and Trust: Reaching the 100 Million Missing Voters.

For her great and incredible work in the field of journalism, she has got a number of awards. She honored by a special award from the Lesbian and Gay journalist Association for AIDS.
